Wampus Cats golfers continue to drop strokes
CLARK FORK — The strokes continue to drop as the Clark Fork golf team is finally getting some course time, as every player dropped between 7-18 strokes off their previous round upon returning to Plains, Montana earlier this week for the second time this season.
Bryce Bare fired a 57 and David Thibault a 60 to lead the boys on the nine hole course, but it’s the girls team that continues to emerge. Tabitha Van Buren shot 50, Paige Gear 54, Tess Vogel 55 and Joann Johnson 60 to lead the girls team, as players with limited experience are starting to par some holes.
“I heard some girls screaming at the last hole,” described head coach K.C. MacDonald. “Paige had sunk a 35 plus foot putt. All of the girls were pretty excited about it.”
The next day the team didn’t fare as well amid tougher conditions at the Wallace Invite at Shoshone Country Club. Bare shot 65 and Thibault 76 to lead the boys, while Vogel shot 61, Van Buren 62, Gear 76 and Johnson 79 on the girls team. Vogel placed 6th out of 17 girls and Van Buren 7th.
“The Shoshone course was a little muddy and the wind was blowing,” said MacDonald. “The temperature was a bit colder and so were our scores.”
The Wampus Cats are at Thompson Falls today.
