Fisher leads Bulldogs to win over Badgers

| April 29, 2010 9:00 PM

BONNERS FERRY — In a very encouraging sign, Ben Fisher looked sharp in picking up the win in his 2010 pitching debut, and he also banged out a team-high three hits to lead the Bulldogs to a 13-1 nonleague win over the Badgers Thursday afternoon at Bonners Ferry High School.

Sandpoint (8-7) head coach Chris Young has kept Fisher off the mound for much of his senior year to heal a tender shoulder. He was on a strict and short pitch count, with four pivotal 4A North League games against Moscow looming, and Young liked what he saw.

“I wanted to put Fish on the mound to see how his arm would feel,” said Young, whose team climbed back over .500. “He went out and commanded the strike zone.”

Daniel Charvoz, Tevin Hamilton and Tommy Jacobs each had two hits, with Jacobs scalding the ball all day, including a run scoring double. Tyler Gordon relieved Fisher and closed the door on a four-hit gem that was called after the fifth inning due to the 10 run rule.

Sandpoint hosts Post Falls in a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch at noon at War Memorial Field.
