Pointing fingers not the way to solve anything

| August 4, 2010 9:00 PM

I have read all the responses to the closing of the Panhandle parking lot and I am amazed at how rude people can be to others. Instead of putting others down, let’s all get together to find out how to solve this problem.

Panhandle should not have to pave a parking lot that they are going to develop later on, that is just plain ludicrous.

Also, let’s get real. There is a shortage of parking in the downtown area and giving out $100 tickets is not going to solve the problem. Employees should be able to park near where they are employed. Instead of pointing fingers, people not shopping downtown, having businesses leave downtown or no new businesses come, let’s try and solve this situation.

I think the council people should be thinking of the future and not worry about how tall a street light is or thinking of only the area around where they live. Let’s think about the town as a whole and what is good for all.

So council people, why not start looking for federal money or grants that are out there right now — start looking. Take the city parking that is there now and make one-story underground, one at ground level, and one another story up. Then look at putting in an indoor sports center, maybe a movie theatre, some professional offices and guess what… you now have not only good parking but you have added more good businesses to downtown. Come up with ideas — maybe you even put residential living on the top level.

Instead of fighting developers that would like to help this town, maybe you start to listen to them and actually come up with something that could benefit everyone.

Pointing fingers is not the way to solve anything, nor is not listening to  what the public thinks is important to the town. Let’s do something.
