James G. (Jim) Reed

James G. (Jim) Reed passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at his home in Sagle, Idaho, with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Jim was born Sept. 11, 1927, to Glenn and Edna Brown Reed at Sagle and lived his entire life in the Sagle area. Jim attended the Sagle Grade School and graduated from Sandpoint High School at Pine and Euclid with the class of 1946. During his senior year at high school he drove the high school bus from Sagle to Sandpoint. Jim worked for Cox Implement Company in Sand-point before enlisting in the United States Army in 1946 and serving nearly two years with the post-World War II occupation army in Germany.

Jim married Frances Boothe Hawkins in October 1956 and they had two sons, Alan Edward Reed and Dale James Reed.

Jim worked for the Co-Op Gas and Supply Company as a petroleum salesman and as an independent delivery contractor for a total of 13 1/2 years. In September 1963, Jim started an insurance agency in Sandpoint for State Farm Insurance Companies and worked 25 1/2 years before retiring at the end of 1988. Jim and Frances spent 20 winters in Arizona following retirement, square and round dancing with new friends from all over the United States, Canada, and various foreign countries.

Jim gave many years of community service in Sagle and Sandpoint. He coached baseball12 years in the Sandpoint Youth Baseball program while his two sons were playing baseball; he served on the Bonner County Planning commission; was on the board of Bonner County Sportsman Association; and served as President of the Sandpoint Kiwanis Club and received a “Distinguished Service Award” for his services. He worked many hours on the Kiwanis Club projects including Camp Stidwell to provide a place for youth activities.

Jim had a great love for his family and enjoyed camping, hunting, dirt bike riding with sons and friends,  berry picking, time spent in the mountains and working on the tree farm. He loved the home he built for his family and wanted to spend the rest of his life there.

Jim is survived by his wife, Frances Reed of Sagle; his son, Dale (Melanie) Reed of Sagle; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Reed; a grandson, Curtis Alan Reed; and a step-granddaughter, Mollie Ann Givens and her boyfriend Kasey DaVault; and his sister, Myrna May Murray of Mesa, Ariz. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Alan; and two brothers, Eugene Reed and Clarence Reed.
