Jay Edgar Smith, 44, of Sandpoint died August 13, 2010 from injuries sustained in a boating accident. 

A service, celebrating Jay’s life, will be held on Friday, August 20th, in the Sandpoint Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Jay was born on July 10, 1966, in Snoqualmie, Wash., and attended the first- and second- grades of school in Falls City, Wash. He was later home schooled, and then graduated from the Upper Columbia Academyin Spangle, Wash., in 1985. He attended Walla Walla College for two years and then the University of Montana in Missoula for a year.

He followed the construction trade as a carpenter and a superintendent. Jay lived in Seattle, moving back to the Sandpoint area in 2008.

He was a member of the Sandpoint Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed being “out of doors,” hiking, snow and water skiing. North Idaho and western Montana were his home.

Jay is survived by Jaclin Smith in Sandpoint; his two children, Isaac and Seva Smith, both in Missoula, Mont.; his sister, Jana Boyd in Forest Falls, Calif.; and his two grandmothers, Jane Smith in Spokane, Wash., and Dora Mae Campbell in Canyonville, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his two grandfathers.
