Prep sports season shifting into gear

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint volleyball team unofficially kicks off its season tonight, playing other area high schools in the annual jamboree at Coeur d’Alene High School.

On Wednesday, the boys and girls soccer teams hit the road for Inland Empire League action in Lewiston. Both of the reigning 4A state champs earned a tie in their season openers.

Melissa Mione scored off an assist by Sydney Morris and Meghan Pagano finished off an assist by Melinda Van Dyk, and Bailey Scrimsher was solid in goal as the Bulldog girls tied host Post Falls 2-2. The boys team tied Coeur d’Alene 3-3 in its home opener.

The Clark Fork football team opens its season on Friday night at Wallace, and the Sandpoint cross country team has its first meet of the season on Saturday in Bonners Ferry.
