LPO drawdown set to begin

SANDPOINT — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to begin lowering Lake Pend Oreille from its summer pool elevation starting Monday.
The corps’ water managers have outlined the following plan for drafting the lake via Albeni Falls Dam:
• Aug. 30 — 2,062.4 feet
• Sept. 6 — 2,062 feet
• Sept. 9 — 2,061.6 feet
• Sept. 14 — 2,062 feet
• Sept. 30 — 2,061-2,060 feet
The lake is typically drafted from pull pool to 1-2 feet from full pool each September. This year, the draft is designed to help support downstream flow requirements in early September and assist with some repair work planned at Boundary Dam.
