Burglars afoot in Kootenai

| December 1, 2010 6:00 AM

KOOTENAI — The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to secure their cars and trucks following a spate of vehicle burglaries over the weekend.

The thefts occurred on Saturday and Sunday on Humbird Street and Fourth Avenue. Thieves made of with various items including an iPod, a diamond ring, binoculars and a .380-caliber pistol, an item which particularly concerns sheriff’s officials.

Residents have noticed smaller footprints in the snow around the burglarized vehicles. Most of the footprints appear to be size 7 or 8, sheriff’s officials said.

Along with locking vehicles, law enforcement officials also recommend against leaving valuables in plain sight.

Those with information about the thefts are asked to call sheriff’s Lt. Doug Harris at 263-8417 (extension 3051) during normal business hours. After hours, tipsters can call Bonner Dispatch at 265-5525 or send an e-mail to sheriff@bonnerso.org.
