Sandpoint AAU team off to 3-0 start
SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint boys combined 5th/6th grade AAU basketball team, called the Sandpoint Dogs, has started the club season winning their first three games in the Post Falls/River City Competitive League.
The team consists of Spencer Jeffres, Nate Kennedy, Andrew Loutzenhiser, Jack Reeves, Jack “JR” Rinck, Patrick Rockwell, Bucky Roop and Carter Wilson.
In the team’s first game they defeated the Kootenai Lakers 30-21. The team was led by Jack Reeves, who scored 11 points, and Spencer Jeffres, who added 10 points. Nate Kennedy put the game out of reach with a 15 foot shot and two free throws late in the 4th quarter.
In their second game against the Black Knights, the Dogs struggled with poor shooting, clinging to an 11-6 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Jack Reeve then scored six of his seven points in the 4th quarter and Bucky Roop hit two free throws as the Dogs held the Knights scoreless to win 19–6.
The team then played their best game of the year in a 34-11 win over the Rathdrum Hawks. The team passed the ball very well creating good shots. Seven of the eight team members scored while Patrick Rockwell posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Bucky Roop and Nate Kennedy played the passing lanes well and combined for 13 steals.
The team has five league games remaining.
