St. REGIS, Mont. — Senior guard D.J. Jackson scored a game-high 10 points and grabbed three steals, and helped lead a balanced offense as the Wampus Cats downed St. Regis 34-25 in nonleague boys basketball action Tuesday in Montana.

Nate Nesbitt added eight points and nine rebounds, Stillman Berkley scored eight and Axel Anderson had six points, five rebounds and five steals to lead the Wampus Cats (1-0), who with the win surpassed last year’s total.

First year head coach Corey Vogel had high praise for the defense of Howard Katzenberg, Berkley and Anderson, who collectively held St. Regis’ 6-4 post to just six points.

“They played terrific defense, just a heck of an effort,” said Vogel, who also liked how point guard Nate Nesbitt ran the show. “We flowed well on offense. It’s a good feeling to win, but we still need to work on some things.
