Thunder girls notch first win of season
SANDPOINT — Kathryn Blair scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, leading the Kootenai Thunder girls to a 35-31 win over the Pullman Christian School Eagles in Pullman on Saturday, their first win of the season.
Christine Tupper added six points and and Josie Saganski four for the Thunder (1-2).
The Thunder boys lost 51-42 to Pullman on Saturday. Taylor Jensen scored 19 points to go with nine rebounds, Tayler Gould added nine, Jonathan Ringhand eight points and eight rebounds and Ian Wheeler six points and nine rebounds in defeat.
The Kootenai Thunder girls basketball team dropped its first two games of the season last week, falling 34-24 at Kootenai Elementary School to a team from the Spokane Valley and 48-36 on the road against the Christian Heritage Patriots from Edwall, Wash.
Blair carried the offensive load for the Thunder in the first game, scoring 21 of her team’s 24 points, then scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the second game. Nikki Jensen just missed a double-double against the Patriots, tallying nine points and nine rebounds.
The Kootenai Thunder boys varsity basketball team opened their season at home with a 69-25 loss to the Oaks from Spokane Valley. Ringhand led the Thunder with 13 points, Jensen added eight and Gould and Joel Crosby two apiece in defeat.
Ringhand then led the Thunder with 25 points in a 90-42 loss to the Patriots. Jensen added a solid double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds in a losing effort.
