Wampus Cat boys fall to Panthers

| December 11, 2010 6:00 AM

CLARK FORK — A slow start offensively proved costly, as Clark Fork dug an early hole and fell 47-31 to 2A Coeur d’Alene Charter in nonleague boys basketball action Friday night at Clark Fork High School.

Brian Smith scored a game-high 12 points, and the Panthers (4-1) jumped out to a 25-10 lead at halftime and played the Wampus Cats even after that.

Nate Nesbitt scored 10 points to lead the Wampus Cats (1-1), who got a big spark when Zach Klein drilled back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter to help get the offense rolling.

“Once again we played good defense before we got into foul trouble,” said Cats head coach Corey Vogel, whose team had trouble hitting open looks. “Charter is a good team, Roman and Smith are pretty good.”

The Panthers are at Lakeside on Tuesday, while the Wampus Cats host Wallace next Saturday.
