God is not our cosmic bellboy
I was shocked at reading William R. Ouimet’s letter (12/9/10), and surprised at the Bee for printing it; it borders on blasphemy.
Who is Mr. Ouimet to tell God what to do? How can he say to Jesus, the Lord, “...get off your angelic butt Get down here and make yourself useful once again”? Is God our cosmic bellboy? Who answers to whom here?
God is a very compassionate God. He has not failed. This world is not a “mistake” nor an “experiment.” Jesus is not an angel (re: “angelic butt”), He is the third person in the Trinity — God the Son.
God is waiting to give everyone who will the chance to accept Christ as Savior and Lord. When Jesus returns, it won’t be as the humble carpenter from Nazareth, but as the all-powerful conquering King.
Suffering exists in the world today because of (1) poor choices we have made, (2) poor choices others have made that affect us, (3) we have lived in a fallen, damaged world ever since Adam and Eve rebelled and forfeited mankind’s dominion over earth to the devil.
The Bible says on the day of judgment we will have to give account for every idle and careless word we speak (Matthew 12:36, 37).
Personally, I don’t have the guts — or is it ignorance — to get in God’s face and tell Him what to do.
