Legacy of violence is nothing to be proud of

| December 14, 2010 6:00 AM

I am horrified by the current reports of child abuse in the Coeur d’Alene area. I sincerely hope you are, too. All day, every day, we are hit with a barrage of hate-filled attacks on the president, those who hold different religious beliefs, those from another country, anyone who appears to be “different.”

These hate messages only serve to fuel anger, resentment, despair and violence across America. I am appealing to all thinking people: Cut the hate and spent that emotional energy paying attention to the most helpless among us — the children of America.

Wake up and pay attention to what is going on in your neighborhood, church, community or even your own family. If Nick Brown had not become involved and if the step-family of the 18-month-old baby had not become involved …

I keep hearing about the legacy we are leaving our children — this legacy of hopelessness, hatred and violence is nothing to be proud of.
