Man arrested after chase
SANDPOINT — A Cocolalla man was arrested Saturday on several of felony charges after unsuccessfully trying to outrun a pursuing Bonner County Sheriff’s deputy.
Kentucky Stills Tarbert is charged with felony eluding, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and grand theft by unauthorized possession of a vehicle.
Judge Barbara Buchanan set Tarbert’s bail at $50,000 on Monday and appointed a public defender to represent him, court records show.
Dispatchers advised police of a report of a stolen vehicle and Deputy Joseph Scholten said in his report that he spotted the Dodge Ram Highway 2pickup being driven west on U.S. Highway 2.
Tarbert, 35, allegedly failed to yield and speeds reached up to 100 mph in 60- and 45-mph zones, according to the arrest report. Tarbert turned off on South Riley Creek Road in Laclede and continued his flight on foot, but Scholten closed the gap and apprehended him.
A backpack Tarbert was allegedly carrying held three meth pipes, a scale and approximately 20 empty resealable baggies. It also contained a small parcel of white powder which tested positive for meth, the police report said.
