Frederick L. Yanik Sr., 76, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God, will be officiating.
The son of Rose Ann (Perry) and Joseph Paul Yanik, Fred was born on May 26, 1934, in Numine, Pa.
He married Phyllis Smith on Nov. 19, 1955, in Bear Lake, Pa.
Fred worked for Proto Tool Company for years and then served his country in the U.S. Army.
He served a stint as chief of police in Bear Lake, Pa., before moving to Simi Valley, Calif.
While living in Simi Valley, he worked for General Motors Corporation for 25 years and ran a sweeping service on the side. He retired to Sandpoint in 1994.
Fred was preceded in passing by his parents; three brothers, Stanley, Carl, and Richard; and his wife, Phyllis.
Fred is survived by a sister, Victoria “Tootsie;” and three brothers, Robert, Richard “Uncle Dick,” and Frank “Muzzy.” Fred is also survived by his three children, Fred Jr. (Jackie) of Clark Fork, Tamara (Tony) of Portland; and Anthony “Tony” (Brenda Smith) in Sandpoint; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
