Blame belongs to us, not God

| December 21, 2010 6:00 AM

I am writing in response to a letter by William R. Ouimet, “Lord, we need help here in this world.”

Anyone who witnesses a frantic mother desperately trying to feed her starving children will remember that moment forever, and be overwhelmed with compassion for her and anger toward the situation. But who will do something about it? People die every day from sin, and they don’t recognize or turn away from it.

Sin, defined by the Bible as disobedience, came upon us at the fall of mankind. Remember the command, “but of the tree (…) you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”? (Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV) From the moment Adam and Eve ate the fruit, sin and death entered the world, and man’s relationship with God was broken. (Romans 5:12)

God loves mankind. He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sins and make a way for us to be reconciled to God.  As Jesus taught Nicodemus in John 3:5 (NKJV) saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God,” so we must be born again to enter God’s kingdom. We need to ask God to forgive us for our sin. Then, we need to turn away from it. Finally, we need to ask Jesus to come, live in our heart, and be our Lord.

God lives and works among us by The Holy Spirit that lives in every believer’s heart. God hasn’t abandoned us. We’ve refused to go His way!
