Disrespect of tradition is not appropriate

| December 23, 2010 6:00 AM

As I entered the Bank of America in Newport, Va., the other day, I noticed they did not have a Christmas tree on display. A few ribbons and ornaments were randomly placed around the bank. I asked, “Where’s your Christmas tree?” She replied, “We have to decorate the way the corporate office dictates. We cannot have a tree as it may offend someone.”

Well, the lack of a tree offends me. A tree is not related to Christianity or any other religion.

So what’s the problem? I went to three different banks in the area: Panhandle State Bank, Wells Fargo and US Bank — all of which have Christmas trees.

I have been a customer of the Bank of America for more than 30 years; however, their action and attitude toward a Christmas tree has offended me to the point where I am closing my accounts and transferring them to a bank which respects the tradition of a Christmas tree.
