Charges reduced in gun incident

SANDPOINT — Charges have been reduced against a Washington state man accused of pointing a handgun at two people during a brawl outside an Oldtown tavern last year.
Jeremy Alan Smith was originally charged with two counts of aggravated assault, a felony.
Court records show the charges were downgraded to misdemeanor counts of disturbing the peace.
Smith pleaded was given two consecutive but suspended jail sentences of six months. He was also placed on probation for four years and is barred from contacting the alleged victims in the case.
Smith, 31, of Newport, pointed a handgun at a man and a woman outside the State Line bar on Aug. 8, 2009, according to charging papers. There were no injuries.
