Wampus Cats fall to Knights

CLARK FORK — Nate Weaselhead scored a game-high 17 points to lead Lakeside to a 58-32 win over Clark Fork in North Star League boys basketball Wednesday night at Clark Fork High School.

For the short-handed Wampus Cats (0-16, 0-6 NSL), it was a tale of two quarters, as they outscored the Knights (7-9, 5-2 NSL) by a margin of 27-24 in the first and fourth quarters. But the Cats could only muster five points in the second and third quarters, which proved to be the difference after building a first quarter lead.

“They shot the ball really well, and we shot really bad,” said Cats coach Melvin Speelmon, who called it a sloppy game with plenty of turnovers by both teams.

Stillman Berkley scored nine points and Nate Nesbitt added seven, as the Cats continue to search for their first win without the services of two of their top players in Chaunce Nesbitt and Howard Katzenberg, who are both out with injuries.

Freshmen Axel Anderson and Zack Klein, making the most of their newfound playing time, combined for 11 points in the losing effort.

Clark Fork is at Kootenai on Saturday.
