Evelyn May Broehl, 86

| February 10, 2010 8:00 PM

Evelyn May Broehl, 86,  known as Gramma B by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Huckleberry Retirement, surrounded by her loving family. She passed quietly to join her loved ones who we know are there waiting for her on the other side.

Evelyn was a strong independent woman who until recently lived on her own and died after just a brief stay at Huckleberry Retirement.

She was born Jan. 31, 1924, in Boise, Idaho, the daughter of Phillip and Mabel Caldwell. She lived in Boise as a child and later lived and attended school in Colville, Wash.

On Aug. 10, 1942, she married Robert Dale “Bob” Broehl in Boise. She lived in San Francisco, and after Bob’s discharge they moved to Newman Lake, Wash. In 1957 they moved to Garfield Bay. In the mid 1970’s they lived in Lewiston, Idaho. Following “Bob’s death in 1989 she moved to the Sandpoint, Idaho, area where she has since resided.

Evelyn enjoyed all outdoor activities: walking in the woods, gardening, camping, hunting, and picking huckleberries. She also enjoyed sewing, was a master at embroidery, an accomplished quilter having produced many round robin quilts with her family, and was a spell binding story teller.

She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, and whenever she saw a need she was always the first to lend a helping hand.

She enjoyed being active in her children’s activities when they were young such as serving in PTA, and leading 4-H. In later years she enjoyed spending quality time at the Day Break Center. However, of all the things she loved, her family was by far the most important.

Evelyn loved her family and God unconditionally and will be extremely missed by those that loved and her knew her.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Bonner Community Hospice for the loving compassion shown to Evelyn.

Evelyn is survived by two children, Dalyn (Allan) Marley and Pat (Benet) Broeh,l both of Sandpoint; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; and by a brother-in-law, Allan Broehl. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, by three children, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Schuerman, Robert John “Buzz” Broehl, and Diane Elizabeth “Beth” Needs; two grandsons,  Kris Marley, and Trevor Broehl; three sisters, Jean Benton, Margaret Midge Johnson, and Yvonne; and four brothers, Frank Dickerson and Ronald Caldwell.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Wesley Ribeiro officiating.

The family suggests memorials to Bonner Community Hospice or to DayBreak Center.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service of Sandpoint.
