LEWISTON — Fresh off a recent perfect game, Sandpoint’s Sherman Ewing rolled a 247, the highest game among the 108 bowlers, to help lead the Sandpoint High School bowling team over 27 schools to claim the North Idaho Invitational Sunday at Orchard Lanes in Lewiston.

Ewing, who bowled his first-ever 300 game last week at Sunset Lanes in Coeur d’Alene, also posted a 636 series on Sunday. Joining Ewing on the SHS team were Bonners Ferry bowlers Derrick Alt, Chris Lemmert and Kirkland Lemmert. Despite the Badgers comprising 75 percent of the team, it competes under the school banner of SHS.

The four bowlers also combined to beat Lewiston 203 to 157 in the team game, also called a baker’s game, in which bowlers rotate each frame from start to finish. They won by five pins in the semis, before downing Lewiston in the finals.

The win qualified SHS for the Idaho State High School Bowling Tournament, which begins today in Burley. More than 250 kids from around the state will be competing in five-person teams, with Bonners Ferry’s Cody Luckey becoming the team’s fifth bowler.
