Cultural, political divide must be 'Wynhausened'

| February 17, 2010 8:00 PM

Definition: “To Wynhausen,” verb, to reach a conclusion, irrational and illogical in nature, either not supported by, contrary to, or totally unrelated to a stated set of facts.

In a guest opinion (Daily Bee, Feb. 9), Bob Wynhausen, the sort of defacto resident uber-liberal, disappointed some of us avid readers by not being faithful to Wynhausening. The normal procedure is for Bob to state facts and then make irrational declarations.

This time however, Wynhausen stated the illogically Wynhausened conclusions as facts first. Example “Republicans also play to their base by denigrating science, education and intellectuals.” (I suspect Bob may be a scientifically educated intellectual, if I read his reaction correctly)

I must protest! Looking for the always mystifying conclusions by Bob following his placing of some (hopefully) facts is what makes him so readable. It has been, in a morbid sort of way, like slowing and gawking at the awful highway accident, then being shaken by what you see. But when Wynhausen merely states his conclusions, it lacks all impact.

In my ceaseless effort to be helpful, I would suggest Bob could have improved his writing should he have included the following alterations, in parentheses:

“Republicans also play to their base by denigrating (politically outcome-based) science, (the dumbing down of public) education and (the total historical failure of far-left but well-dressed) intellectuals.

Space is so short here, and there are so many recommendations, but hopefully Bob can return to the form that so regularly entertains and induces nausea simultaneously.
