Is Minnick sending jobs out of Idaho?

| February 22, 2010 8:00 PM

“Congressman Walt Minnick is bringing jobs to Idaho …” Really? Well, that’s what the large print on his recent mailing said. So it must be true. Inside it proclaims, “Jobs are No. 1 priority” and “Minnick launches ‘economic blitz’ in Idaho.” Just below my address it reads, “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.”

Most people would hardly notice the tiny insignia on his last two mailings. It reads, “Allied Printing Trades Council, Union Label, Washington state.” So much for that “Buy Idaho” spirit from our own Congressman Walt Minnick, who appears to export Idaho tax money and jobs.

Is there not one good printer, deserving of his business, in the entire state of Idaho? What are the implications of a liberal congressman from a red state, sending work to a union shop in a blue state?

I called Minnick’s office on Feb. 12 to find out where this piece was printed and they promised to call back when they had an answer. It’s been five days. If my assessment is correct, this entire brochure, about bringing jobs to Idaho, is an insult to the people of Idaho. Shame on you, Mr. Minnick. You have so quickly forgotten whom you serve … or have you?
