Wampus Cats lose heartbreaker
MULLAN — Senior Victor Walker scored a team-high 10 points to lead Clark Fork, but it wasn’t enough as the Wampus Cats fell 43-42 in a North Star League nail-biter Tuesday night at the Mullan Pavilion.
Chaunce Nesbitt and Nate Nesbitt each scored eight points for the Cats (0-10, 0-1 NSL), and freshman Zack Klein added seven. After the Tigers took a late one point lead on a breakaway layin, Nate Nesbitt had a nice drive and dish to freshman Axel Anderson, whose game-winning attempt at the buzzer rattled out.
“Axel was open and had a nice look, but it wouldn’t fall,” said Cats coach Melvin Speelmon, who added that Walker had his best game ever. “Before he fouled out, Victor played great defense.”
Jamel Walton scored a game-high 23 points to lead the host Tigers (3-4, 1-2 NSL) and Casey McKinnon added 17.
The Clark Fork boys and girls teams will host Stillwater Christian on Saturday night.
