SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man accused of illegally shooting a pure gray wolf last year has settled his case, according to court documents.

Russell Glen Frachiseur agreed on Thursday to pay $125 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Fish & Game in exchange for the dismissal of a misdemeanor poaching charge.

Frachiseur, 50, reported shooting the adult male wolf outside his home south of Priest Lake on June 12, 2009.

Frachiseur told a Fish & Game warden he perceived the animal as a threat to his dogs, in addition to his neighbors’ children and their animals, court records said.

Frachiseur rejected a settlement offer that proposed a suspended jail term, a hunting license suspension, fines and penalties, and $250 in restitution to Fish & Game.
