Fister and Marienau double up on Senior Night

SANDPOINT — Seniors Leonard Fister and David Marienau each registered two convincing wins for Sandpoint, which fell 45-25 to Bonners Ferry and 46-33 to Lake City in duals on Senior Night at Sandpoint High School.

Fister pinned both of his opponents convincingly at 160 pounds, and Marienau continues to emerge and make up for lost time after turning out for his senior year.

“David and Leonard had great matches,” said Bulldogs head coach Mike Mitchell. “Great way for them to go out as seniors.”

Also honored on Senior Night were Dylan Quigley, Pat Charland and Curtis Mickelson. The Bulldogs had to forfeit six matches against Bonners Ferry, and five matches against Lake City as they battled injuries and remain thin at the heavier weights.

Garret Belgarde won twice, and Jake Deil, Payton Dillon, Kyle Csizmar and Troy Goodman each registered a win for the Bulldogs. Randles had high praise for Goodman, who pinned the Badgers Reid Boorman in 3:53 in a technically solid match.

“Goodman stepped up to the plate and hit a home run,” said Randles.

For pure drama, the match of the night came between Sandpoint’s Kyle Csizmar and Bonners Ferry’s Dusty Koehler at 125 pounds. Koehler had beaten Csizmar in their previous two meetings, but this match was much tighter and went to overtime tied 7-7, before Koehler registered a sudden death takedown as the crowd roared to life for the latter part of the match.

“That was a hell of a match,” said Badger coach Conrad Garner. “Dusty had a little razzle-dazzle at the end of the match.”

Sandpoint will wrestle this weekend at the Madison Tournament.
