Patricia Lee Shadel, 87

Patricia Lee Shadel of Hayden, Idaho, passed away at home on Jan. 8, 2010. Her husband, Leigh, and family were present.

She was born Feb. 23, 1922, to Don and Amy Miller in Kootenai, Idaho. Patricia was one of nine children, along with her brothers and sisters, Keith, Dwight, Leah, Ila, Ina, David, Lyle and Jerry.

She grew up in Kootenai, graduating from Sandpoint High School. After graduation she attended nursing school until she met her first husband, Norris Schwin, and had a family of four girls.

She moved to Alaska with Norris and girls in December 1964. Both worked for Tesoro Petroleum on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska until the time of Norris’ death in 1974. After Norris’ death, she left Alaska to work for the Evangelical Mission Ministries in Pharr, Texas.

She and her current husband, Leigh Shadel, had dated in high school in Sandpoint, Idaho. Their friendship was renewed in July 1977 when Patricia returned to Sandpoint for a family reunion. They married Novem-ber 1977 in Pharr, Texas. This brought their family to six girls. Patricia and Leigh lived Colburn, Idaho, until they moved to Hayden in 1993.

Patricia loved gardening, sewing, reading and fellowship with friends and neighbors. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She loved the Lord and spent her time telling others of His love and living for him. Her prayer was that each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to know the Lord. She attended Coeur d’Alene Bible Church and was active in her church and community. She will be missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her husband Leigh; siblings, Ina Jacobson, Lyle Miller and Jerry Miller; daughters, Noralee (Schwin) Flaget and husband, Alan, of Cashmere, Wash.; Kathy (Schwin) Evans and husband, Tim, of Sterling, Alaska; Nancy (Schwin) Macvie and husband, Fred, of Kenai, Alaska; Marcia (Shadel) Zerbe and husband, Dave, of Evansville, Wyo.; Linda (Shadel) McLaughlin and husband, Jim, of Hayden; and Peggy (Schwin) Foster of Anchorage, Alaska She also was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Patricia Shadel will be held at the Coeur d’Alene Bible Church Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at 2 p.m.
