Trio of Sandpoint coaches nab honors
SANDPOINT — Sandpoint soccer coaches Randy Thoreson (boys) and Adam Tajan (girls), who led their respective Bulldog teams to state 4A titles, were named 4A state coaches of the year in their sports by the Idaho State Coaches Association. Both coaches have built powerhouses, and earned the respect of coaches from around the state yet again.
Sandpoint head football coach Mike Mitchell was named the 4A District 1 coach of the year, giving the Bulldogs a third fall coaching honor.
St. Maries volleyball coach Missy Asbury and Timberlake cross country coach Shawn Lawler were named state coaches of the year, and District I coaches of the year for fall sports (all classifications) were Asbury, Thoreson, Lawler, Mitchell , Mario Maddy (Lakeland girls soccer) and Cathy Compton (Coeur d’Alene boys cross country).
The winners were selected by other coaches in their sport districtwide and statewide.
