U.S. must clean house before blaming others

| January 13, 2010 8:00 PM

I laughed out loud as I watched the news recently. The commentator was lamenting the difficulties that widespread corruption with the governments of many middle eastern countries presents the United States.

What about the corruption within our own government? I’m referring to the deliberate extortion of taxpayer dollars perpetrated by Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and many other members of the Senate, in exchange for their votes to pass this pending disastrous health care bill.

What about the bribes with taxpayer dollars to get these votes. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada should be prosecuted for bribery of government officials. If these same acts were committed by a defense contractor making secret deals with our elected officials to secure a favorable vote on a new weapons system, the public and media outcry for prosecution would be deafening.

Let us clean up our own house before we start complaining about corruption abroad. I am outraged.
