SANDPOINT — A Priest River truck driver was injured early Friday morning when he jackknifed his tractor-trailer, which was then struck by another truck on U.S. Highway 95 north of Elmira.

Idaho State Police said Derwin J. Alexander was northbound when he lost control while entering McArthur Curve and slid sideways into the northbound guardrail. Before the jackknifed Freightliner came to a rest, it was struck by a northbound Isuzu box truck.

The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. and blocked the highway for about three hours.

Alexander, 47, was taken to Bonner General Hospital and later released. State police said he was cited for failure to maintain his lane of travel.

The driver of the Isuzu, Larry J. Power, a 35-year-old from Spokane, Wash., was not injured, ISP said.

Both motorists were wearing seat belts, according to state police.
