All legislation should benefit legal citizens

| January 20, 2010 8:00 PM

I seldom look at the editorial page blogs, I’m disappointed by the number of personal attacks rather than addressing issues, particularly on politics. I think, at least at the moment, the majority of people in this country are here due to our ancestors and their desires to live in a free society. I think that’s what we still want.

It seems the personal attacks always get to, you Republicans did so and so and you Democrats did this. If we’re all honest we’d admit most accusations against each party is, sadly true. How we view the transgression is whether it benefits us, then we’re more benevolent toward the act.

No matter the party, no matter how well the intentions were, many of the candidates get to Washington and in time become corrupt and no longer work for us. Most of you reading this are aware of this simple fact, if your monetary outflow is greater than your intake, you will fail. OK, my oldest son doesn’t understand this concept but it pertains to us and our government.

There are many great things about our country and the American people but not our representatives. Our own laws are abused by our elected officials in Washington, D.C., Why, because they ensure they benefit special interest groups, thus staying in office. There needs to be changes in years in office, benefits and pensions.

No matter the issue, the law or the project, nothing should come out of Washington that doesn’t start with the question: Does this benefit the legal citizens of the United States? Yes, us, the guys who are paying the bills.
