Herb Rickert

Herb Rickert was born Dec. 13, 1933 in Tacoma, Wash., to Herbert and Elmira Rickert.

He grew up in the Orting Valley of western Washington and graduated from Capowsin High School in 1952. He immediately entered the Air Force and spent four years serving as a flight engineer.

In 1956 Herb went to work for Boeing, where he worked all his life, retiring in 1989.

While at Boeing, Herb was eventually promoted to supervisor of the division that produced new parts for Research and Development.

In 1978, Herb was selected as Boeing’s “Employee of the Year.”

He married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Judith Arlene Goodrow on Jan. 25,1957. They had four children.

After retirement Herb and Judy moved to the Sandpoint area, where they lived until recently.

While in Bonner County Herb directed the wild game salvage program, utilizing meat from accidentally killed deer, elk and moose. Herb had remarked that it was his most satisfying achievement. During the seven years of the program, Herb and other volunteers distributed more than 150,000 pounds of meat to area food banks and church outlets for distribution.

Herb was an active and faithful Christian man, who was a treasure to all who knew him. He was a member of New Song Bible Church in Sagle.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Judy Rickert; his four children, Rodney Rickert, Karen Crawford, Bob Rickert and Carol Hobert; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents and his sister Arlene.

Memorial services will be held at New Song Bible Church in Sagle on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m.
