Sandpoint U15 volleyball team kicks off season

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Volleyball Club U15 team finshed second in the consolation “A” bracket at the Tri-Cities Kick Off Tournament on Sunday, finishing 14th overall out of 31 teams.

Sandpoint started the tourmanent in pool play, beating the Yakima Valley Spikers U16 (25-2 and 25-1) and Tri City Ringers U14 teams. Sandpoint then lost to the No. 1 seed of the tournament, the Spokane Splash U16 National team, 25-23 and 25-21 to finish second in their pool. That dropped them down to the consolation “A” bracket for the afternoon play. 

On the road to the finals they played four straight matches, beating Sunnyside U16, Sela U16 and Team Yakima U16, before falling in the championship match against Wenatchee U15 Gold to finish second. They only lost five sets out of 15 all day long in the strong showing.

The team consists of Beth Lewis, Maddie Russo, Emily Parsons, Teresa Young, Kelli Plaster, Kiley Wilson, Molly Lordon and Makaela Marley from Sandpoint, and Melissa Trost from Priest River. They are coached by Cynthia Derr and assisted by Hailey Parsons. 

The next tournament is Sunday, Jan. 24 at the East Valley Sizzler Tournament in Spokane.
