| January 23, 2010 8:00 PM

Paul Eric Nybank, following a long decline in his health, died with loved ones by his side in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Jan. 19, 2010. He was 88 years old.

Paul was born March 16, 1921, in Denmark to Einer and Anna-Marie Nybank.

He married Gudrun Petersen on Nov. 12, 1944.

He moved his family to America in October 1953, where he made an amazing life for his wife, himself, and his two sons. He immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area and spent many years enjoying life in the Sierra foothills of California.

Paul was an Honored Royal Danish Guard for the Queen in Denmark, a salesman of men’s clothing, a boat builder, and a finish carpenter. He was an avid sailor, a horseman, a hiker, and enjoyed time with his family and his animals.

He leaves behind his sons and their wives, Steffen and Linda of Sagle, Idaho, and Michael and Shelly of Aptos, Calif.; his grandkids, Lisa and Mike of Foresthill, Calif.,  Sean and Andrea of Santa Rosa, Calif., Eric and Jenna of Aptos, and Kristin of Walnut Creek, Calif.; his great-grandchildren, Kiera, Ellie, and Chase of Foresthill; and a very special friend, Gloria Opferman.

Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Gudrun and his baby girl.

The family will have a private service in early February.

A special thank you to those who helped the family through all of Paul’s ailments, especially the compassionate residents and staff of Luther Park in Sandpoint.

Paul leaves us with fabulous memories of our times together. He leaves us with lessons taught by no other. “Laugh a lot; it helps you live longer!” — Papa 2010
