Residents, businesses made Christmas merry
I would like to take a moment to compliment my wonderful community, the city of Ponderay, for a job well done. It seems like everyone we know is having hard times due to the stressed economy and lack of jobs. Life if very hard for so many and, yet under all the financial stresses and strains of day-to-day life, along comes the Christmas holiday and it taxes our bank accounts even more.
Businesses all over Bonner County are always being asked to support one worthy cause of another, and I know we do not take this lightly, but we forget that some of these businesses are having tough times, too. Too many stores are vacant, too many people go elsewhere to shop and forget that shopping local helps us all. I want to bring your attention to 28 business or private citizens of Ponderay who stepped up to the plate and gave 300 Ponderay children a wonderful memory that they will cherish forever.
On Dec. 19, 2009, Sandpoint came to Ponderay riding on a big red Northside fire truck. He came bearing gifts for the children of Ponderay. With the help of many people in our community, we were able to fill the Santa Sacks with so many wonderful items. I would love to personally and publicly thank each and every one of these individuals and businesses for their kindness and generosity: Dr. Kirk Davidson, DDS; Dr. Paul Cox, DDS; Dr. Tom Helvey, DDS; Ponderay Community Development Corporation, Days Inn Motel, Motel 6, Holiday Inn Express Hotel, Super 8 Motel, Litehouse Dressing, Staples, Burger King, McDonald’s, Yokes Fresh Market, Bonner County Library Bookmobile, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Brad Mitton, Northside Fire District, Commission Lewis Rich, Barbara Kennedy, Dennis Brown, Officer Chrystle Horvath, Hailey Brower, Bri Rood, Nancy Wood, Mary Geiger, Dale and Donna Daugharty, Mitze Thompson, Su Warren and last, but not least, David Keyes and the Daily Bee for making sure we had information in the newspaper in a timely manner.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you one and all for making our Christmas Santa Sacks such a meaningful and successful event.
CAROL KUNZEMAN,
Mayor
