| January 26, 2010 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — Lake City sophomore guard Jasmyn Smith had it going, drilling seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 23 points, leading the Timberwolves to a 72-34 win over Sandpoint in nonleague action Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

“I don’t think about it,” she explained of her hot shooting. “I just shoot.”

Sydney Butler added 14 points and four steals for Lake City (13-5), which hit 11 3-pointers as a team.Maggie Kirscher scored 12 points to go with six rebounds and three assists to lead Sandpoint (1-17), which trailed 47-16 at half without the services of senior Christina Johnson, who is out indefinitely with a head injury.

The Bulldogs caught fire in the third quarter, outscoring Lake City 18-12 behind two 3-pointers from Charissa Chatburn and another from Mackenzie Jones.

“Our best quarter of the year, period,” said Sandpoint head coach Lance Bruce. “We kept playing hard, just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter.”

Koko James pulled down eight rebounds, and Natasha Roop scored seven to go with six boards in defeat, as Sandpoint only dressed eight players for the game, including varsity newcomer Leah Heer, who more than held her own.

Sandpoint hosts Priest River tonight at 7:30 p.m. as part of Senior Night for the girls team.
