Spartans take down Bulldogs

| January 27, 2010 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The one-two punch of Eric Holbrook and Jake Weimer was clicking nicely, helping lead the Spartans past the Bulldogs 77-61 Wednesday night in nonleague boys basketball at Les Rogers Court.

Weimer dropped in a career-high 30 points, many off of deft assists by Holbrook, who netted 18 points of his own to lead the Spartans (12-3), the No. 2 ranked team in the state among 3A schools.

“Weimer has a great touch inside and did a nice job of finishing through contact,” said Spartans coach Ryan Bodecker, who liked how his team shared the ball. “Holbrook ran the show and kept pushing the ball.”

Stefan Buratto continues to show he’s one of the top scorers in the state, pouring in 25 points to lead the Bulldogs (4-9), who were slightly flat after a hard-fought loss to Lake City the previous night. Skyler Tucker and Brandon Lawrence each added eight, but Sandpoint could never seem to close the gap after the Spartans jumped out to an early double-digit lead.

Sandpoint is at Moscow in a big 4A North showdown on Saturday.
