Klein leads Wampus Cat boys, who fall in overtime to Mullan
CLARK FORK — Freshman Zack Klein dropped in a season-high 15 points to lead the Wampus Cats, who fell in overtime 45-42 to Mullan Friday night in North Star League boys basketball action in Clark Fork.
Casey McKinnon scored a game-high 23 points, including 10-13 from the free throw line, to lead the Tigers (5-8, 2-5 NSL), who outscored the Wampus Cats (0-15, 0-5 NSL) five to two in overtime.
“They made shots and free throws when they needed to,” said Cats coach Melvin Speelmon, who felt his team played its best game of the season. “Zack was hot. He hit some threes and did everything I asked him.”
Speelmon also had high praise for the play of point guard Nate Nesbitt, who scored 11 points and ran the show for the short-handed squad, which had a chance to win late in the game.
The Cats were without two of their best players in Chaunce Nesbitt, who is out with a broken collarbone, and Howard Katzenberg, who injured his knee.
