Caroline V. McDowell, 68, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at the Lakeview Funeral Home with Charley Packard officiating.

Carol was born April 21, 1942, to Raymond A. and Dorothy V. Yaw. She grew up in the  area north of Sandpoint. Carol graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1960.

She was married to John Sylvester and they had three children. Carol later married Robert Blessington in 1974, they raised eight children together, and ran the Dover post office.

On July 1, 2006, she married Mike McDowell, after a 20-year courtship. She worked various jobs in the area and retired from the Tam O’Shanter, where she avidly supported the “Adopt a Family” program.

Carol was always busy and always smiling. She loved to cook and take care of people. She was a member of the Lady Eagle Auxiliary No. 589. She enjoyed the annual float trips on the Moyie River and her Thursday pinochle group.

Carol is survived by her husband, Mike McDowell; her children, Patrick (Lisa) Sylvester of California, Thomas Sylvester of Oregon, Deborah (Danny) Kost of Sandpoint, Lisa Blessington of Seattle, and Scott McDowell of Oregon; three grandsons, Bryson and Trevor Kost, and Joshua Sylvester; brother-in-law, Patrick McDowell and nieces, Valerie, Samantha, Amanda, and Haley. She is also survived by five brothers and three sisters, Donald (Dianne) Yaw of Bremerton, Wash., Sharon (Ron) Roget, Gale (Ruby) Yaw, Mary (Leo) Addison, Ray D. (Teri) Yaw, all of Sandpoint, Mark (Vangie) Yaw of Seattle, Kaye (Kevin) Cogswell of Othello, Wash., and Rick (Gail) Yaw of Sandpoint.
