Drivers cited after accident
SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man who rear-ended a U.S. Postal Service vehicle earlier this month was cited for inattentive driving and possession of drug paraphernalia, court records show.
Jeffrey L. Buckius was eastbound on West Pine Street when he collided with the light-duty transport truck, causing it to overturn and injuring its driver, an Idaho State Police report said.
The letter carrier, 65-year-old Robert W. Easton, was also eastbound, but was stopped to make a mailbox delivery.
The crash occurred at the bottom of a hill in the 11500 block of West Pine on June 15.
Buckius, 27, told state police he turned his attention to his daughter in the back seat and realized the postal vehicle was stopped, the report said.
Buckius believed he was driving 35 mph when the collision occurred, according to the report.
The posted speed limit on that stretch of road is 25 mph.
A state police news release indicated Buckius was wearing a seat belt, but the crash report indicated he was not wearing a restraint and hit his head on the windshield of his Pontiac G6 sedan.
A marijuana pipe was discovered in the vehicle. Buckius confessed to having the paraphernalia before he was confronted about it and said he had not used in a long time, the report said.
