LPOSD earns 'Parents' award

| July 8, 2010 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The Lake Pend Oreille School District received notification from Idaho Superintendent of Schools Tom Luna that it was selected once again for School Match’s “What Parents Want” honor.

Only 16 percent of the nation’s public school systems earn this award that meets the educational needs of families. One of Luna’s priorities is to have school districts “better serve parents and students, the customers of education.”

Luna commended LPOSD officials on “continuing to meet these high standards and achieving what parents want.”

SchoolMatch is an independent, nationwide service that helps corporate employee families find schools that match the needs of their children.

It has conducted more than 1,000 educational effectiveness audits of school systems throughout the country and assist corporations with site selection studies. It maintains information on every public school system throughout the nation.

The service is offered as an employee benefit by approximately 600 companies. More than seven million parents accessed their services through a variety of website locations.

Criteria for selection include test scores, accreditation, competitive teacher salaries, class size, and recognition of excellence.

Only 12 school districts were recognized in Idaho and this is the second year in a row the LPOSD has been selected.

Superintendent Dick Cvitanich was pleased with the announcement from Luna.

“Our staff and teachers work very hard. I am very pleased they were recognized once again,” he added.
