BCRCC has duty to show support for AZ

| July 12, 2010 9:00 PM

In response to David Keyes column “County GOP’s politicizing of fair is wrong, inappropriate” I would like to respond.

One of the problems we face in politics is that everyone is afraid to speak their mind out of fear of hurting someone else’s feelings. Political parties are in place with principles that they should adhere to.

One of the hottest issues of the day happens to be illegal immigration and what is happening in Arizona. Like it or not, the majority of American’s support immigration reform and side with Arizona.

Do I think the fair board was siding with illegals? Absolutely not. But the BCRCC does have a duty to let the citizens of Bonner County know that they support Arizona and what they are trying to accomplish for their state. After all, it is about state’s rights — wouldn’t Idaho want support if we had a state wide issue that affected us?

Both parties have issues they need to work toward resolving or fight for. The GOP is obviously fighting for immigration reform and voicing their support for Arizona. My husband was raised in Arizona. Our first date was on Cinco de Mayo. We obviously understand that there are people of all ethnic groups in our great country, however, that doesn’t mean we don’t support Arizona’s policies. If the federal government had been doing its job we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in.

Back to Bonner County Fair, it is a great little fair with lots to see. One of the booths will be the Democrats with messages they feel are near and dear to their heart. The other will be BCRCC who are choosing to show the public that we are not supporting a boycott of Arizona!

David Keyes, shame on you for using your column to insinuate that, by supporting Arizona laws, the BCRCC must be racist in some way. What we want is simply what is best, safest and most fair to all people of our country!

And to Lewie Rich, Arizona politics do affect us in North Idaho. If you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t be in politics!
