Dressing well shows you will work well
In the recent candidate forums for the primary election I was appalled at the manner in which many contestants for public office showed up! Dressed like refugees from the grab bag pickings at the Third World Toilet Discount Store in downtown Nairobi, Kenya for all practical purposes.
When you run for public office you are selling yourself. Showing up for an elected position in torn, dirty, unkempt jeans and leather shoes from the Spanish-American War that are actually cracking clean through is no way to convince constituents to vote for you. Other candidates showing up in jeans and sneakers is almost as appalling. Why, one would have a hard time voting for any of the above for even county dog catcher when they show up looking like Elmer Fudd the Dempsey Dumpster diver. Show some respect for your constituents, candidates.
Rex Rammell, Cornel Rasor (in attendance although not running), Mike Nielsen, Dennis Engelhardt, Joyce Broadsword, Cheryl Piehl, and Shawn Keough were examples for most of the rest of the candidates to emulate. Relevant examples of how to dress when you present yourself to the body politic for elected office.
Dress well, and you will work well. Time tested principle in both the public and private sectors.
That goes for audience members, too. Don’t look like you just crawled out of a Dumpster at the county dumps when you come to a forum, smelling like low tide at the Bronx Zoo; show some respect!
