Lakers split games with Moscow

MOSCOW — All good things must come to an end, including 15 game winning streaks, as the Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers lost for the first time in weeks on Tuesday night, splitting an American Legion doubleheader at Moscow.

The Lakers (28-7) fell 12-6 in the opening game, as Cole Tonnemacher struck out nine in the complete game effort. Defensive miscues led to a number of unearned runs, as the Lakers were beaten for the first time since falling to Cranbrook on June 26.

Tonnemacher mashed his 13th home run of the season, and drove in four runs, and Joel Cramer continued his hot streak at the plate by going 2-4 in defeat.

The Lakers bounced back quickly in the second game, getting the bats going in a 16-7 slugfest win. Andrew Pearlstein and Tonnemacher each tallied three hits to lead the offense, while Cramer, Jordan Hammack, Nick Halpin and Ryan Schwartz all went 2-4 from the plate in a balanced effort.

Tevin Hamilton picked up the win to run his record on the season to 6-1, while also sporting a sub-three earned run average, and struck out eight while going the distance.

The Lakers play a doubleheader at Coeur d’Alene on Thursday, then return home for a doubleheader against St. Maries on Saturday night.

The district tournament, where the Lakers have already clinched the top seed, will be held in Moscow on July 21-25, followed by the state tournament in Burley from July 28 through Aug. 1.
