Why didn't BP havea good disaster plan?

| July 21, 2010 9:00 PM

How about that oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico? What a fine statement of our scientific prowess. You can’t blame Mother Nature, who usually catches the brunt of blame whenever possible. This one, like Chernobyl and war, to name a few, are 100 percent prime USDA made. With no immediate fix in sight the need for urgency, besides the obvious, intensifies as hurricane season is now upon us.

Unfortunately, El Niño will not only be our ally, thus a more projected active storm season in the gulf. When the going gets tough, the tough start playing the blame game. The real victim will be us after all is said and done.

Most of the country puts the blame on government. Government points a finger at BP. BP accepts the blame, but noteworthy is that oil companies have governments in their back pockets regarding perpetuation of self-regulation policies. Also, this crud(e) is washing up on our shores, not theirs.

So why should they rush to fix the problem?  Obviously, they don’t have a readily available fix. The next attempt will be “the redundant blowout protector” try. Should that fail, the “implode the well” endeavor, seriously folks.

We lease a deep water well, to outsiders, in our waters, and there’s no plan B if something goes awry? What was our government thinking?

Perhaps we are so into our perceived superiority as a species that we can’t admit we don’t always have the smarts to steward the planet. Sarah Palin, in her infinite wisdom cries of “drill, baby, drill.” Typical political mind set. Way to go, Sarah.
