Lakers fall to Moscow

MOSCOW — Joel Cramer had another big day at the plate, but it wasn’t enough, as the Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers fell 11-7 to Moscow Friday night at the American Legion District Tournament in Moscow.

For the second night in a row Cramer laced an inside-the-park home run, part of a 3-3 night which included the three-run homer and three runs scored.

“He hit it straight over the centerfielder’s head to the deepest part of the park and just out-ran it,” described assistant coach Curtiss Brown of Cramer’s home run, his second of the rare variety in back to back games.

Cole Tonnemacher added two RBIs, and Jordan Hammack added another, but Moscow plated three runs in both the third and fourth inning to blow the game open, and the Lakers (32-8) lost for just the second time in their last 26 games.

Tevin Hamilton took the loss, falling to 6-2 on the season, before Cramer came in to pitch the final inning.

“Tevin couldn’t get the curve over and they just sat on his fastball,” said Brown. “They got some clutch hits and we just gave them a lead that was hard to make up.”

The Lakers face Prairie, a surprise winner Friday over Moscow, today at 1 p.m. Tyler Gordon will get the start, with the winner earning one of the two berths in the state tournament next week, before facing Moscow at 4 p.m. for the district title.
