Robert W. 'Bob' Farmin, 76
Robert “Bob” W. Farmin, 76, passed away, Saturday, July 24, 2010, surrounded by family at his cabin on Lake Pend Oreille.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint.
Bob was born on Nov. 19, 1933, to Ted and Sibyl Farmin. He grew up in Sandpoint, enjoying time fishing, hunting and flying around the lake in his father’s pontoon plane.
After attending private high schools in Portland and Seattle, he returned for his senior year and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1951. Bob married Dorothy J. Warren on Dec. 27, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sandpoint, where the couple remained lifelong members.
He received a bachelor’s degree inbusiness from the University of Idaho in 1956, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
Follow-ing college he held sales positions in Seattle and Spokane. In 1960, he relocated back to Sandpoint and sold wholesale pharmaceutical supplies for Mckesson and Robbins. He was offered several promotions that required leaving North Idaho; however, to remain in Sandpoint, he purchased and managed Sandpoint Furniture until he retired in 1984.
Bob’s life centered on raising his four children in Sandpoint, enjoying the North Idaho outdoors, and being involved in the business community.
His recreation and hobbies included following the seasons of North Idaho and participating in outdoor recreations such as snow skiing, boating, fishing, hunting and hiking.
He accumulated a wonderful arrowhead collection and claimed to be the first community member to purchases shares to start Schweitzer Ski Basin. He skied every year Schweitzer was open until the age of 73.
Bob contributed to the community as an active member in several organizations where he was an officer or board member on numerous occasions. The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, Sandpoint Rotary, Festival at Sandpoint, Elks, Idaho Independent Economic Development Council and Panhandle State Bank, were some of these organizations.
He is survived by his four children: Dan (JoAnne) Farmin of Newport, Wash., Rob (Becky) Farmin of Priest River, Idaho, Cindy (David) DeMers of Sandpoint, and Kris (Scott) Salesky of Priest River, Idaho; a sister, Ellamae McClelland of Sagle, Idaho; and a brother, Ted (Judy) Farmin of Sandpoint; and 12 grandchildren, Kelly and Ryan Farmin, Eric, Brooke, and Alexis DeMers, Erin and Max Salesky, Hailey and Hayden Farmin, and Lacey, Melissa, and Dallas Hopkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Dorothy.
