Where are facts to back up allegations?

| July 30, 2010 9:00 PM

Regarding Wes Hanson’s 7-20-10 “Youth detention needs serious reevaluation” letter, we need to take another look at his serious charges against the Bonner County law enforcement community.

Wes, thank you for hopefully posting under your real name, but I must ask you if you have submitted the necessary evidence to responsible police management in Bonner County, from the Sheriff on down, to substantiate your harassment of young people allegations? You make some very serious charges against the entire Bonner County police community; can you prove them?

Mary Tormey alleges: “Being touched by a male police officer is very uncomfortable for an adult women. I can’t imagine what it must be like for a young girl. Why should a young girl have to give up her freedom and her rights, just because some pervert wants to feel her up?” Mary, do you have substantiation for your incredulous allegations of serious police misconduct? Have you contacted responsible police managers in Bonner County?

Mary, have you or members of your family had experience with law enforcement?

Wes and Mary, I hate to burst your bubble. But Bonner County law enforcement is by no means over paid. Nor is it oppressive. Those who keep the peace in Bonner County, from the Sheriff on down, are pretty decent, well meaning people for the most part. Could it be that parents shoulder much of the blame for juvenile problems in Bonner County?
