Local youths compete in Hershey's Track Meet

SANDPOINT — The sun broke out just in time for the start of the Hershey’s Track Meet Friday afternoon at Sandpoint High School, as 35 area youth competed in a host of events.

The event winners in each age group qualified for a spot in the North Idaho State Meet on July 10, in Kellogg. All qualifiers will be notified by the Sandpoint Parks and Rec.

The meet was put on by members of the Sandpoint High School cross country team, and featured six different racing options (50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,600) and two field events (softball throw and standing long jump. Each participant was allowed to compete in three events.

n Boys 13-14 winners

100 — Clayton Pell, 13.18.

200 — Jonathan McCormick, 27.68.

400 — Mahonri Hunsaker, 1:18.

800 — Sam Powell, 3:09.

1,600 — Sam Powell, 7:09.

Softball throw — Isaac Johnson, 145-6.

Standing long jump — Allen Roon, 6-8.
